I was browsing Flickr, and I've seen this doll today. I was shocked with the ressemblance she has to some ED dolls. Then I realized that Sailor_Orbit has been banned from some doll forums, and started to wonder... have any of you seen this? www.flickr.com/photos/62963416@N07/sets/72157645375763551I honestly think it's such a waste of talent. She can build a whole doll in porcelain, and cast her metal accesories. Why doing such an exact replica?

She was banned form Enchanteddoll forum because this doll being a recast form original Enchanteddoll. There was a huge discussion on the forum, but unfortunately SailorOrbit didn't give any explanation. So everyone assumed that this doll a recast, and she was banned by Moderators.
I know that SO is a talented artist and making her own dolls, but this doll really looks like ED.

Ooh, had no idea about that. Again, how can it be a recast? if the doll is made in porcelain, it would be considerably smaller than an ED, since it shrinks almost a 15%. In any case, I think it is very, very similar. : (

SO has a porcelain Ed, and the doll that she made is much much smaller than original doll.

It has been confirmed that the doll on Flickr is a recast, possibly with a few minor modifications, but the origin of the sculpt is not at all in doubt. It is cast from the Enchanted Doll Sailor Orbit owns. Sailor Orbit has already been banned from this forum. However, she has been known to use aliases and harass people via PM and email and may try to appear here using an alias. Please alert the mods if you witness any such activity.
Recasts have the potential to become an issue with porcelain dolls as they are already with resin dolls. So please be on the lookout for suspicious activity like: -someone offering to sell you a recast doll (or an " inspired by" doll) -someone asking to borrow your doll to make a mold from it -someone selling a doll where the deal is just too good to be true
If any of these things happen, we ask that you contact the original artist immediately. You will help build the case against the person doing the stealing. The artist can confirm if a suspicious doll is legitimate or recast. You should also alert the mods in the Ask the Moderators section.

I think this subject has been explored ad nauseum on the ED forum....Any interested parties can follow the thread there. I don't think there is a need to bring this up again..

I'm very sorry. I am not very aware of the discussion threads in the other forum, so that's why I asked here. But you are right, there is no need to further talk about it if it is a well known issue. I just didn't know : /

It's ok nanyalin! You gave an opportunity for me to warn the community about suspicious stuff, that's always good. I hope that if we are all in strong opposition to recasters from the very beginning they will never get a foothold in the porcelain bjd community at all.

Hi Allurose, Thank you for all the tips to watch for with possible recasts. For the record, I am totally against recasts. The can truly damage the doll industry. But did want to comment on one thing you mentioned in an earlier post. I'm not sure that someone saying their doll was "inspired" by someone else's doll is anything that should alarm a prospective buyer. So many dolls are "inspired" by other artist's dolls. I wouldn't like to think that an artist might be passed over because they said their doll was "inspired" by someone else's doll. All of the mods and people on this group are so helpful. You give so many heads-up and tips on what's up for sale. And, love seeing the artists participate. )

You are right, someone having an "inspired" doll can mean many things and shouldn't be automatically condemning. I only mentioned it because it is a word Sailor Orbit used to sugar coat her recast doll, and other recasters may as well.

Again, I don't know that much about recasting and even less of this particular instance, but I have seen a few young artists ruined when accusations were made against them without real proof. In at least 2 of those instances I knew it to be untrue. I love Marina's dolls and have worked with her very early in her career. I would hate to see her dolls devalued by someone recasting them. Is there solid proof that this has occurred?

Allurose,
Please understand that I am making these statements in a general manner and only because of past experiences, where it turned out not to be true. I thought I had looked at the thread on the forum, when i first became more active, but much was deleted, and I didn't want to stir up an old and unpleasant discussion. Just asked now because of the recent comments.

Have any of the recasts been sold for monetary gain? I don't know the full story but selling identical recasts is wrong wrong wrong. Not that anyone can paint a recast with Marina's expertise, but still.
If none have been sold then it is just the owner's identical copy. I don't think I have a problem with that.
Really, the question is if any have been sold. I don't think that info is on the ED forum. I want proof too, before condemning someone. Asking Chad or Marina is impossible, they rarely answer emails.
