Each month, the Alameda County Fashion Doll Club has a presentation on a different type of bjd. This month Nessa and I teamed up to present porcelain bjds! It was so fun. People seemed very impressed with the unique art of porcelain bjds and I definitely enjoyed blathering on about my favorite subject! If any of you are in the Bay Area, I hope you will come check out the club. There will be a big sales meet in june, free to attend and $10 to vend! Here is the group on Facebook. Here are some of the photos I took. Except for the Paperwhites and the disassembled Forgotten Hearts girl, all belong to Nessa <3 Porcelain BJD presentation at ACFDC by TinyJewelsShop, on Flickr Vivid Doll by Polina Myalovskaya Porcelain BJD presentation at ACFDC by TinyJewelsShop, on Flickr Open Doll, by Elena Akimova Porcelain BJD presentation at ACFDC by TinyJewelsShop, on Flickr Wee Lucky Charm doll by Maryna Skubenko Porcelain BJD presentation at ACFDC by TinyJewelsShop, on Flickr LeLe Doll, owned by Patty Wellermade Porcelain BJD presentation at ACFDC by TinyJewelsShop, on Flickr resin Tender Creation doll by Anya Dobryakova Porcelain BJD presentation at ACFDC by TinyJewelsShop, on Flickr Paperwhite Doll by Teri Porcelain BJD presentation at ACFDC by TinyJewelsShop, on Flickr Vivid Doll by Polina Myalovskaya Porcelain BJD presentation at ACFDC by TinyJewelsShop, on Flickr Open Doll, by Elena Akimova Porcelain BJD presentation at ACFDC by TinyJewelsShop, on Flickr A few more on Flickr! Oh I think it did! We covered: -brief explanation of difference between antique bisque dolls and modern pbjds -ED rise to fame, skyrocketing prices and rarity -niche opened for dozens of other artists -how the dolls are made -common prices and availability, where to find -unique pbjd features like permanency of paint, stringing system, fragility -online presences including this forum! -a big discussion about the cost of the dolls (craft vs art) -resin replicas of porcelain dolls, resin dolls of similar style -and we talked about each doll we have, where we got them, what makes them unique, etc A lot!! People seemed very engaged and interested, and there were lots of tickets in the raffle for that little girl doll by the end! I'm so glad I got to do this.

Sounds like a delightful event. It's always fun to see different types of dolls and learn more about them.

Yes I hope so! It was a small group though, only about 15 people. Maybe in the future I will lead panels at conventions, that would be fun!

I think the ones in Europe can be quite good. I've always wanted to go to LDoll!

It sounds really amazing, so fun to be able to present something you love so much to new people. I always feel when I talk to someone who doesn't know about porcelain bjd's and they ask some questions, you can see the hobby and this lovely niche through their eyes and it becomes as new, you can discover new aspects, or suddenly be more aware of thing within the hobby that you just take for granted otherwise. One day I hope I can attend a doll convention of some sort!

I get very jealous when I see the conventions in Russia, they always look SO amazing, and of course, Marina often goes to them...

Love your photos, nessa! Did you ever find out what doll artist from New York they were talking about?

The amount of talent there is mindblowing really. I would love to attend it someday but traveling to Russia is not easy. So I'll probably never go there. I'm hoping to go to LDoll in Lyon next year. I've never been before. Luckily for me, it's not too far away so I'd love to see all the beautiful dolls in person.

You are lucky LDoll is so close!
Does anyone know of conventions like this in the western United States?
