Thank you nordic! She is very sweet. And thanks for bumping this thread, I had forgotten I have another part of Abelle's story ready to go... This is the last part for now I think. I want to post the rest once her outfit is complete...
The circus teaches Abelle that how you fall is more important than whether you fall. The first thing she does each morning is leap from her tightrope down into the net. She practices keeping her body loose. She welcomes the rush of air around her and the stiff embrace of the net. After years of practice, she can balance on the rope easily, but she falls like she was born falling.
Which is why, one day when her foot slips and she plummets downwards, it is completely unexpected and unnecessary when Ivan, one of the acrobats, catches her.
He was swinging below her from one trapeze to another, and happened to pass by her at exactly the right time to grasp her wrist. Reflexively, she returns his grip. Their eyes meet and he looks almost as surprised as she does. But his grip is steady. She knows she will not fall again.
The power of their combined momentum sends her sailing in a perfect arc. At the top of the arc she is weightless. Her cloud of hair floats up around her face as if she is underwater. Then there is a trapeze under her. Without conscious effort, she lands in a graceful sitting position, stunned by the magical ease of her flight.
Ivan flips through the air behind her and catches hold of the trapeze. He hooks one arm over the bar and wraps his other around the rope. It’s the only way he can share the space with her. The trapeze swings wildly from the momentum of his approach, but Abelle feels perfectly secure.
"All right?" he asks. He actually looks concerned.
She nods wordlessly. A red blur next to them is Igor, Ivan’s identical twin. Igor calls out a question in Russian and Ivan waves him off carelessly. They had been practicing their partner act, as usual, and Ivan had probably been planning to catch his brother, not Abelle.
Ivan grins as her in relief and is gone, twirling through the air as if gravity did not apply to him at all.
As Abelle shimmies up the rope of the trapeze to her tightrope wire, she can feel the imprint of his hand and wrist on her left arm. Soft...his hand had been so soft, but how was that possible? He should have rough callouses from the ropes and bars that make up his airborne world. But all she can feel in her memory is the softness of his skin. The mystery of it plucks at her. It feels like there is a story there. Abelle loves stories.
Later she discovers the story is depressingly mundane: a certain kind of beeswax lotion. He even gives her some to try. But somehow this knowledge does not alleviate her curiosity entirely.
Abelle believes in strength. She believes in developing a thick skin. Callouses are the only reason she survived to reach the circus in the first place, so this unexpected fascination with the acrobat disturbs her. She does not try the lotion.

Thank you both, you are very kind. Sutton, I have written the scene with Igor already and plotted out the rest. Not sure if I will get to the outfit stealing. The handy lotion might be hard to show on this forum if you know what I mean... It actually took me a long time to come up with a dark backstory for Abelle that wasn't TOO dark and twisted to show on the forum. My brain is pretty evil I guess! You all will see what I mean. I'll try to work in the cigars for sure. We should talk via PM about Arunima. I'm still new to writing and can't always write the thing I plan to write, if that makes sense... But it sounds like fun. Bibarina, I would love to read some backstory from you! Who is it for? Are we being teased?? You both will have to wait until Abelle has her outfit ready for a photoshoot so I can start a new thread for her. Then I will post the completed little story I have planned.

Wow!! She's so beautiful!! Makes me even more excited about my FH doll!! Thank you! Thank you! It was sad to let her go, but I found out I like my collection much more with fewer dolls. I sold about half of mine in the last few months. Not an easy choice, but my doll cabinet looks so nice now. With more space they really shine and they all look like stars! I probably won't buy too many more dolls, although there are many I admire so much. This girl went to another forum member and I think she is very happy!

@allurose She's much loved over here, I think I've fussed over her nearly every day since she arrived. I do need to make something for her to wear though. almostanangel I'm excited for you too, FH dolls are lovely in person.
