Today I would like to share with you Rhaella's story as this tiny lady deserves it)
With this doll, I tried to pay tribute to George Martin’s epic saga – The Game of Thrones. It nearly impossible to stay neutral in this never ending battle of clans for power, gold, honor, sometimes survival. This is a cruel world, merciless to the weak or soft.
I really could not stop reading the book, although shivering sometimes because of it’s savage, primal cruelty and injustice. It has life in it, with great things and great crimes done by (not very) mortal people. I was shocked by Rhaella’s story, how she was forced to marry her own brother, how she had to become the queen with such great power but not being able to choose her own destiny. I tried to reflect that, the power within that woman, and tenderness. Strength, readiness to fight and at the same time acceptance of her faith and nature.
Queen Rhaella Targaryen was the sister, wife, and queen of King Aerys II Targaryen and the only daughter of King Jaehaerys II Targaryen. Rhaella was the mother of Prince Rhaegar, Prince Viserys, and Princess Daenerys. She died shortly after Daenerys's birth. Rhaella's marriage to her elder brother Aerys was arranged at the command of their father, King Jaehaerys II. House Targaryen is a noble family of Valyrian descent that escaped the Doom House Targaryen ruled as the kings on the Iron Throne and as the Great House of the crownlands for nearly 300 years, until their ouster in Robert's Rebellion, which they call the War of the Usurper.
The phrase "blood of the dragon" refers to what are considered typical Targaryen features: silvery-gold (or platinum) hair and violet eyes. The Targaryens can tolerate a bit more heat than most ordinary people, though they are by no means immune to fire.
So, Rhaella is the last of an ancient family, beautiful and sad. Her fate is predetermined: she will be a wife of the King, the whole world will lay at her feet. She wants to be free but the destiny of the Queen and the honor of the royal Family can not be changed by her wishes. Her fate is pretty sad but not she is by herself. Rhaella is a light, gentle girl. Beautiful and mysterious, she keeps her secrets deep inside and you can imagine them only looking into her eyes.
chi chi Thank you very much. I'm very glad to hear that you like them because people not always understand the design concept of the jewellery for that collection. Now I'm going to tell about that here, in this thread) And thank you again, your words are inspiring
The last thing I would like to tell you about Rhaella is her jewellery and outfit details.
Hand-made jewelry was made by Julia Sukhareva, a jeweler of the collection, specially for each of five dolls of “Timeless Treasures” collection with no 3D modeling and in a unique copy. All jewelry is stylized in classical technique of ancient silver jewelry and includes semi-precious stones: topaz, amethyst, garnet, rock crystal, tourmaline, beryl. We intentionally made all decorations a little bit “rough”, like they were made in ancient times and just yesterday dug out of the mounds – such a jewelry “decision” was a part on the collection concept. By the way, massive and sometimes rough jewelry is a developing trend in world fashion industry (you can see it in collections of Lanvin, Christian Dior, Givenchy and, of course, famous medieval/orthodox Dolce & Gabbana collection) which we considered to take into account to improve the creative and art part of “Timeless Treasures” collection.
In general, preparations for the creation of this collection was long and interesting, together with Julia Sukhareva we learned archive photographs and drawings from archaeological excavations, and the recordings of historians.
So, each doll possesses its own paraphrase in the history of mankind – for example, the main theme of decorations for Raella is famous Scandinavian "animal pattern" which you can see not only on the crown or chest decoration but on the dress ornament as well.
Thank you all for your attention and kind words and have a nice Sunday evening!
