My name is Katarina, I've always been into making things, sculpting and drawing mostly. Around 2005, while studying to become an art teacher, I became increasingly fascinated by dolls and decided to try to make my own. Luckily there was a ceramics course coming up in school and I jumped at the chance. I live outside of Stockholm, Sweden. My tiny studio is located nearby, in an old porcelain factory. My dolls were on the cover of the December 2010 issue of Doll Reader, and have appeared in some other doll magazines as well, like Dolls Magazine, Doll Collector and Haute Doll. Just lovelovelove everything Katarina does, I think she infuses her dolls with a soul magically and I'm always excited to see what she'll come up with next! I hope it's allowed to share just one pic of my two Mylings by Katarina, they are not ball jointed but are porcelain and I love them dearly: Christabel and Isobel holding hands ♥ by anninaislove, on Flickr

Wow what unique work! I hadn't heard too much about this artist yet. That skull head looks very detailed.

Katarina is perhaps my most favourite doll artist - because *she* is so unbelievably sweet and lovely. For me, she exudes warmth and her dolls reflect her amazing personality... I have 6 of her dolls, but all are the Myling sculpt (which is not a BJD but rather resembles an antique bisque doll in construction, so I can't post them here, sniff!) She quickly became my "favourite" through how utterly lovely it is "dealing" with her, I feel like she's become a friend even though I've never met her. Following her facebook and blog is always refreshing and a breath of creative air, I love the glimpses into her life and studio, I soak them in eagerly :->
I have a loooong looong wish list of all her new sculpts, it's like pokemon, I want to have one of each... or two or three of each :-P She's an amazing artist to follow, I find her phenomenally inspirational.
I also like how different her dolls are. To me it seems many BJD artists are all following the same sort of general theme, what seems popular currently, but I really think her work shows just how true she is to her own style and vision.

I have never seen this artist before- I like her dolls, they are so original. I really admire artists who have the courage to follow their own style. I would like to see more! Perhaps Orchidsdesigns you could post some pics in the tearoom? ??

I have all my photo's up in my flickr --> I would love one of her Cecilia dolls, she reminds me of the Catrina or Santa Muerte goddesses/idols of Mexican religion I found the significance so interesting of the different coloured robes you dress her (your own private Catrina shrine statuette) signifying the different things you could be praying for....

I just wanted to give people a heads up, Katarina announced on her blog that this year 2015 will be the last year in which she makes Myling and Blå, and she will only take commissions for them til end of May. After 2015 she will retire those two sculpts to concentrate on new ones! See her post here: distractionsbymyling.typepad.com/my_weblog/2015/03/heads-up.htmlI really want to try and save up to commission one last Myling girl for myself, they are just so awesome!

Hi - I had intended to post here much sooner! So great reading the comments I joined the forum some time ago - but haven't been active until just recently. Will be working more on my BJD sculpts from now on - have some things to change before I start selling them - but soon hopefully!
