Hi everyone I'm Amanda and I'm an artist from Australia. I've loved dolls my whole life and sculpted and sold OOAK dolls predominantly full time for the past 11 years. I've tinkered with repaints of Monster Highs, not for sale, just my own enjoyment. I have yet to own my own BJD, but I'm saving up for that really special one. I don't want to buy something I don't really want just because it's cheaper ^_^ Ultimately I would like to transfer my experience in sculpting into making my own porcelain dolls. I'm getting one on one lessons with a master porcelain artist locally, she's expensive but I'm hoping that will get my work of a high standard a little quicker than if I was just experimenting on my own. The first time I touched greenware I was IN LOVE. I can't believe it's taken me 11 years to consider working with such a gorgeous medium. I'm hoping to build up a collection of my own and other peoples BJDs. So ... Hi!

Hi Amanda! Welcome to the forum! Taking lessons in porcelain sounds so fun, I am jealous! I look forward to seeing your work develop, I hope you will post your experiments here.
I love your philosophy about waiting and saving for what you really want, instead of settling on something cheaper or buying on impulse. I am the same way. Although it often means I go a silly length of time without something I need, just because I can't afford the "best" one yet. My girlfriend had to persuade me to get a new sink to replace our old junky one, because I kept thinking I would rather wait until I could remodel the whole kitchen! Does that happen to you too?

Hello! Please share pictures of your OOAK dolls - I'd love to see them I look forward to seeing your porcelain work - and please ask around if you have any questions as we have some talented people among us who can help out (not me unfortunately!). Anyway - welcome!

Thanks Allurose! Yes I definitely have that problem. I've been wanting a fully costumed Popovy Sisters doll for a couple years now and it has not happened yet haha. But I will get there eventually. Thank you Kamia I've attached a couple pictures as an example of my work. They're very small in life; what I'm wanting to make in porcelain I'm hoping will be bigger. I've already started 3 prototypes but am unhappy with them so far, so I will keep making more. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and working with porcelain is a big dream of mine so I'm taking it very seriously lol!

Hi Embers Thank you, the dolls are made from polymer clay I'll be sculpting stuff for porcelain out of polymer clay too but probably in a different style. I've been getting really into anime and Studio Gibli lately, I would like to make something inspired of that style. ^_^ Oh I love little owl! She's gorgeous

Oh my goodness, I need to see Ghibli inspired porcelain dolls. I also love popovy - and I heard they're making porcelain soon (haha the prices will probably be insane).

Hi and welcome Amanda- I joined fairly recently too I love your style- I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with porcelain! I too would love a Popovy, one that is painted by the sisters, fully costumed and wigged and accessorized- I was close once but when I realized they can only be paid by bank transfer- I had to put my wish on hold for a bit.
