This is a warning message to all my friends here on the forum who may also have Facebook accounts. Before I go on, I want to be clear that I don't wish to start any political or religious debates here. I have many friends of different faiths, social and political leanings, and celebrate the fact that we all come from diverse backgrounds. To me, this is what makes life wonderful and fascinating! I purely wish to spare anyone else the distress this particular incident has caused me, and to put you on guard against the same.
Yesterday I received a friend request from someone on Facebook, and seeing that we had two mutual 'dolly' friends, accepted straight away without really thinking about it, assuming it was a fellow collector or doll maker. A little later on, being interested in friends who share my passion for creativity in the doll world, I clicked to have a look on their Facebook page to see where our shared interest lay.
I was greeted with the most sickening live footage of young boys being beheaded. This was not the only post, the whole of the visible page was filled with similar images/footage and all equally horrific and very very graphic. Almost instantaneously, the person started messaging me. Needless to say, I ignored the messages and unfriended them. I think I was more shocked because it was so totally and utterly unexpected. I did a double take before I could believe what I was seeing.
So please, if you wish to avoid befriending anyone advocating and celebrating these horrific acts, double check their homepage before hitting that accept button! Don't do what I did, and assume that because you have mutual 'dolly' friends that they truly share this interest with you, or you may end up with more than you bargained for in your news feed!
