I hope you enjoy my tutorial. I am an artist and an art teacher, so I love to share my process with those who are interested in learning more about this type of sculpture. You can see more of my process here: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyshirt/mmcover by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr Mold Making 1. by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr mm2 by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr mm3 by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr mm4 by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr mm5 by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr mm6 by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr mm7 by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr mm8 by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr mm9 by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr mm10 by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr mm11 by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr mm12 by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr mm13 by Tiny Shirt, on Flickr

Thank you for posting this for me tinyshirt! You have gotten my brain thinking about how to make dolls myself (uh oh!). Now I want to know more!

Thanks for posting the pics of your process. It's tremendously helpful. I have Lsarning to be a Doll Artist by Martha Armstrong Hand, but she only covers molds for a couple of the parts. I must confess I want a book that would detail mold making for each and every doll part. But maybe that would be too boring for everyone else!

Me too allurose! It's a bit of a pipe dream at the moment, but one day I would love to try. In the meantime I find it fascinating to watch how people work. The basic principles all seem the same, but each artist seems to go a slightly different way about it.

I have often fantasized about writing that kind of book. I need to refine my technique first.

She gives free tutorials and had many book references, one of which is the Martha book. I would really recommend that site. It's even fun just to look at the process. I think mold making is really what the maker would prefer to do. There's several ways of doing different parts. Thanks for sharing your molding techniques!

Tinyshirt, I condensed all your photos into one post so they would stay in order, otherwise the tutorial would get hard to follow as different threads are bumped out of order on the forum. I hope this makes it easier to see. Thanks so much again for posting! <3

I have the second Yoshida BJD book and I can't read Japanese, but there are lots of photos of the mold making for each piece.
